Orthotics are medical devices that are used to alter or modify foot function and are designed to treat, adjust, and support various biomechanical disorders. Some orthotics are simple, commercially-made devices but the most effective orthotics are custom-made devices that are crafted to meet the specific needs of a particular individual and their problem.
Custom orthotics are created using an impression of the foot called a cast, which duplicates any misalignments in foot structure. Using the cast our practitioners and technicians design a device that balances out deformities and corrects misalignments.
A well-crafted orthotic can provide relief from many painful or debilitating conditions of the legs and feet and the lower back especially if the orthotic is used with footwear that will accommodate it.
As you use your orthotics, the cosmetic look may begin to break down over time due to the enclosed warm environment of a shoe. Don’t despair! Your orthotics can usually be refurbished several times before the device is fatigued to the point where it won’t support you anymore. What most consumers do not realize is that as long as the shell of their orthotics is not broken or cracked, the orthotics don’t have to be replaced with new custom orthotics. Rather, they can be refurbished to close to their original condition for considerably less than a new pair of custom orthotics.
