Biomechanics, Bracing and Orthotics

What is Biomechanics?

The interactions between our feet, ankles, knees, hips and lower back is what enables us to move – whether we’re walking, running or simply standing upright. Pain in any number of these joints can seriously affect your movement, and it can also be a sign itself of incorrect posture, gait or a number of related problems within your body’s biomechanics.

The expert team at Premier Clinic can identify the source and cause of your pain or discomfort through our unique biomechanical assessment and orthotics services. Then we can work together with you to develop a tailored management plan to treat and correct the problems.

Orthotics are medical devices that are used to alter or modify foot function and are designed to treat, adjust, and support various biomechanical disorders. Some orthotics are simple, commercially-made devices but the most effective orthotics are custom-made devices that are crafted to meet the specific needs of a particular individual and their problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are using biomechanics and orthotics to recover from injury, or to rehabilitate after surgery, your plan will typically involve a tailored physiotherapy programme and/or custom made orthotics.

However, we will work with you to tailor your plan to suit your own bespoke needs. No two people are the same.

A medical history and clinical assessment will be taken, followed by a gait analysis and where necessary video analysis of your movements.

From the data obtained a structured programme will be provided and a plan put in place for rehabilitation (if necessary).

The benefits of our biomechanical and orthotics services can be seen in our former patients’ improved posture and balance, enhanced efficiency of movement and the prevention of joint and soft tissue injury.

For athletes, this can mean a noticeable improvement in athletic performance. For those undergoing rehabilitation or physiotherapy for pain and restricted movement, it’s a potentially life-changing service.
