Overcoming Shin Splints

Shin splints are a runner’s nightmare, a major injury concern which can affect training and competitive activities.

There are a number of causes of shin splints and although intense exercise such as long distance running, where strain is placed on the tibia, is the most common, other factors within the lower limb can contribute to the condition.

As with any biomechanical problem, while rest may help resolve the immediate problem, treatment needs to consider the root cause of the shin splints to achieve a long term resolution.
